Road Safety Capacity Building Workshop Held in Birendranagar, Surkhet
Birendranagar, Surkhet – Nepal Automobiles’ Association (NASA), Safe and Sustainable Travel Nepal (SSTN), and NASA Foundation jointly organized a one-day capacity building workshop on road safety in Birendranagar Municipality, Surkhet.
During the first session, the road safety audit report of 75 km of roads under Birendranagar Municipality and other sections of Surkhet district, prepared by NASA Nepal and SSTN, was officially handed over to Mayor Mohan Maya Dhakal. At the same time, Inspector Devendra Budhathoki of the District Traffic Police Office received essential road safety equipment including a radar gun, breathalyzer, safety jackets, and other materials.
The workshop featured technical presentations and discussions from experts. Transport Engineer Sanjay Luintel highlighted the road safety audit findings, while Engineer Karn Singh Khatri addressed challenges and solutions related to road safety. Er. Hemanta Tiwari, Chairman of SSTN, elaborated on the concept of road safety audits, and Transport Engineer Dilman Singh Basnyat, Treasurer of SSTN, spoke on road safety awareness. Subas Bhattarai, Executive Secretary of NASA Foundation, shared NASA’s ongoing road safety initiatives across Nepal. Inspector Bhupendra Shahi from the Province Traffic Police Office also shared insights on pressing road safety issues faced by the traffic police.
Mayor Mohan Maya Dhakal, the chief guest, expressed strong commitment to implementing the recommendations of the road safety audit report.
The workshop saw the participation of around 40 representatives, including Ganesh Shahi, President of Karnali Automobiles’ Association, as well as officials from the Road Division Surkhet, Mid-Western University, District Traffic Police Office, and Birendranagar Municipality.
This collaborative initiative marks an important step toward enhancing road safety standards and awareness in Surkhet.
